The Perfect Host starring David Hyde Pierce
“Warwick Wilson is the consummate host. He carefully prepares for a dinner party, the table impeccably set and the duck perfectly timed for 8:30 p.m. John Taylor is a career criminal. He’s just robbed a bank and needs to get off the streets. He finds himself on Warwick’s doorstep posing as a friend of a friend, new to Los Angeles, who’s been mugged and lost his luggage. As the wine flows and the evening progresses, we become deeply intertwined in the lives of these two men and discover just how deceiving appearances can be. With outstanding performances by David Hyde Pierce and Clayne Crawford, cowriter/director Nick Tomnay takes us on a suspense-filled ride where nothing is as it seems. THE PERFECT HOST is a slippery psychological thriller that exposes true human nature and reveals just how far we’re willing to go to satisfy our needs.”
American Psycho meets Niles Crane? I’m in. Looks utterly twisted and enjoyable, can’t wait to see DHP’s performance.
“KookyPuppet Feature Film by Jan Svěrák
Kooky is a 2010 Czech action comedy film directed by Jan Svěrák. The film combines techniques of puppet animation, stop motion and live action. It tells the story of a six-year-old boy whose parents force him to throw away his favorite toy, an old teddy bear named Kooky who comes to life in the landfill, escapes into a mysterious forest and begins its journey amongst the rough-and-ready creatures of the forest. All puppets and props were designed by Jakub Dvorský.”
I posted about this a long time ago and after finally seeing a full trailer, wow. Must see.

“We’ve seen some great animation in the recent past, but damn. The Czech film Kuky Returns looks like a wonderful blend of Spike Jonze, Jan Svankmajer, the Muppets and probably a couple others. (Such as the video game Little Big Planet, even.) But despite all those influences at play, it also looks very much like its own thing.
Kuky Returns is the story of a boy six Ondra, who suffers from asthma, and so on “health reasons” must be off his favorite toy - a pink bear kuky. When mom Kukyho throw in the trash, it will work Ondrová fantasy in which experienced Kukyho adventure in an unknown natural world. It’s really just a dream a little boy or kuky actually went to the biggest adventure of his plush life
Kuky Returns is an adventure, a poetic family story in which the main role, however, take the heroes of children’s fantasy worldwhere the only heroes are the puppets. “I thought then change the scale and place the story directly into the microcosm, his protagonists make small enough that the roots of the tree decorations, light in the atmosphere made raspberry leaves, fuzz was all the props and extras natural insects,” says Jan Sverak, who is also the author scenarios and as with most of his recent films also the producer.”
Very, very interested in this. I love to see this style making a comeback.

Trailer for MachoTailDrop
I’m very interested.
“For all of the world’s fireplaces used to stack skateboard videos and DVDs, it’s increasingly strange how few, if any, feature films exist to directly reflect the ubiquity of the sport and lifestyle in pop culture. The new indie film, Machotaildrop, might be the only across-the-board example. Not only does it have a skateboarder named Walter (played by skater/actor Anthony Amedori) as its main character, the movie’s plush fantasy world serves as a metaphorical backdrop for a modern skater’s journey from passionate amateur to paid-and-jaded pro. After Walter is recruited to the hedonistic dream estate of a major skateboard corporation called Machotaildrop, he’s soon ordered by its shady overseer, The Baron, to raid the territory of an outlaw skater gang called the Manwolfs. Herein lies a moral dilemma and awakening: help Machotaildrop establish a kooky skater theme park inexplicably called Ape Snake on the Manwolfs’ turf and get rich. Or bail.
Machotaildrop is already stirring curiosity online for its attractive cinematography and for surreal imagery that evokes the prim-and-proper stylings of Wes Anderson, the offbeat humor of Spike Jonze, and the acid-tab abstraction of Alejandro Jodorowsky. Accessible to fans of those directors, Machotaildrop still glows with the esoteric yet stonerish attitude synonymous with a lot of skate culture. Veteran and current pro’s like Steve Olson (as a baker-skater) and Rick McCrank (as a snobbish, injured icon) get laughs in supporting roles and the plot lends itself to well-shot bouts of skate tricks.”
